Welcome
Dear Candidate
Director of Public Health - Hertfordshire
Thank you for your expression of interest in the post of our Joint Director of Public Health. This exciting new role offers the opportunity to operate in a pioneering County in the context of the Public Health England agenda. The Director has a key place on the strategic leadership teams of both our organisations and will play a major influencing role across the County to lead and shape the future direction of our public health services.
We are proud of our joint-working achievements between the NHS and County Council in Hertfordshire and are ahead of the curve in many areas. Our Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board met for the first time in June this year and we have three established clinical commissioning groups, covering over 90% of the population, with whom we have forged strong relationships and shared national platforms. It is the strength of our relationships and ability to engage with partners across the County which places us in a strong position to respond and adapt to the proposals in the Health and Social Care Bill.
We are committed to making significant improvements in public health and reducing health inequalities in our County and our strong Joint Strategic Needs Assessment set the tone for working together successfully. The planning and foundations are now in place for our new Director of Public Health to drive forward transformational change and help prepare our workforces for the change ahead and future transfer of the Public Health team to the County Council.
We seek a new Director who is committed to driving out health inequalities and brings creativity and superb relationship building skills to continue making things happen across our two organisations. Supporting our Health and Wellbeing Board to horizon scan and engage with local people as well as agree joint courses of action will be critical; a dynamic style and approach will best fit our needs.
This job will provide a career-building opportunity for you to further develop your leadership skills and transformation change expertise in an exciting new Public Health landscape. If you feel that you have the skills to support our vision, we hope that this microsite contains more than enough to persuade you that Hertfordshire is a County that will lead the way on Public Health.
Yours sincerely
Caroline Tapster Jane Halpin
Chief Executive, Hertfordshire County Council Chief Executive, NHS Hertfordshire
